Upcoming MeetingFebruary 7, 2012
Lois Hallock will be presenting "Creating Your Perfect Sewing Space" About the Speaker:
Lois Hallock is a quilter, Professional Engineer, and a Professional Organizer. She was born and raised in a Mennonite Community in Pennsylvania. Lois has a Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering and has worked for years in Research and Ergonomics in a aircraft manufacturing plant. Her career has been focused on cost and labor reduction through process improvements that maximize the efficiency of the factory worker. The efficient work environment is set up ergonomically with Parts, Plans, and Tools accessible. Lois's passion for quilting began after the death of her father. When he left this earth, he left behind furniture that he made with his own hands and documentation in the form of books that he wrote. Grief over his death caused Lois to search out her legacy. Female ancestors typically left behind quilts that are clues to their lives and spirits. Lois decided to follow in the footsteps of the women who went before and make quilts to express her life and spirit to those around her. Lois's two worlds of quilting and engineering have collided to form a new synergy in her life. She has applied her organizing and problem solving skills to her passion of quilting, forming a whole new perspective on Quilt Studio Design. The energy and enthusiasm created by following her passions launched Lois into the Professional Organizing business. Lois has successfully designed over 100 quilt studios to date and published many magazine articles. She lectures, teaches, and consults annually at the Fall International Quilt Festival in Houston, Texas. Lois is also available to lecture and teach or consult personally with quilters all over the world via Skype or phone. Lois currently resides in Seattle Washington with her husband and teenage kids. | Seattle NAPO VisionNAPO Seattle is the source of education and services for professional organizers and the public in Washington State, dedicated to enhancing the quality of people’s lives.
National Association of Professional Organizers |
NAPO Challenge through January 31st 2012
is a world wide program developed between Soles4Souls and NAPO members to encourage their communities and clients to clean out their closets and donate gently worn footwear for a good cause. Footwear is a first step in helping people in impoverished areas live healthy, productive lives. Footwear can help eliminate the spreading of diseases through the foot as well as help children obtain an education, as many schools have footwear requirements to attend.
Donating to Soles4Souls provides a real-life application creating a transition opportunity for letting go. Many people are motivated when they feel they can be a part of something so worth while. Donating tired out old shoes to S4S not only allows them to 'live again', but also creates more space for themselves which is also a great motivator and mood lifter.
